What 854 COWS Actually Does

854 COWS is a simple SMS service for Tillamook County information. You text us a question, we text back an answer. That's it. We don't store your messages. We don't store your phone number. We don't build profiles. We don't track you.

For Regular Users (Asking Questions)

What happens when you text us:

• You send a question to 541-854-2697
• We read your question and look up the answer
• We text you back with the information
• We immediately delete your phone number and your message

Done. We forget you exist until you text us again.
What we store about you: Nothing.
Each text is completely independent. We don't know you texted us yesterday. We don't know what you asked before. Every question starts fresh.

For Registered Businesses

If you register your business with us (by texting "REGISTER [Business Name]"), we store:

• Your business phone number (so we can verify it's really you when you update info)
• Your business name and category
• Your business information (hours, specials, contact info)

That's it. We don't store your personal information, just your business listing.

Opt-Out List

If you text STOP to us, we store your phone number on an opt-out list so we know not to respond if you text us again. This is the only time we keep regular user phone numbers.

What We Don't Do

• Don't store your conversations
• Don't remember what you asked
• Don't track when you text us
• Don't know how often you use the service
• Don't build user profiles
• Don't sell anything to anyone
• Don't share any information
• Don't send you marketing messages
• Don't message you unless you message us first

Data Sharing

We can't share your data because we don't have any (except for businesses who chose to be listed, and even then we only share what they want public - like business hours and contact info when people ask).

Your Rights

Regular users:

• Ask what data we have: We'll tell you "none" (unless you opted out)
• Delete your data: There's nothing to delete
• Stop getting messages: Text STOP (though we only respond when you text first anyway)

Businesses:

• Update your info: Text from your registered number
• Remove your business: Text us or email tilly@854cows.com
• See what we have: Email us and we'll tell you

Technical Details

SMS Service: We use Twilio to send and receive text messages. They handle the actual message delivery, but they don't get to keep your data either - we delete it immediately.
Website: Our website 854cows.com doesn't track you or use cookies for tracking.

Security

Since we don't store your information, there's very little to secure. For the business information we do keep, we use standard security practices.

Legal Compliance

Children: We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If a child texts us, we respond to their question and delete their information just like everyone else.
California Privacy Rights: California residents can request to know what information we have (answer: probably none unless you're a business) and request deletion (answer: already deleted).

Changes

If we change how this works, we'll update this policy. The current version will always be at 854cows.com/privacy.
